GEM, or the Grand Egyptian Museum, is a fantastic place to visit if you’re interested in Egypt’s rich cultural heritage. The Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Egypt, is home to thousands of items from Egypt’s ancient past. The collection includes both priceless artifacts, such as those from King Tutankhamun’s tomb, and more commonplace things that provide light on ancient culture. Also, it features works by modern Egyptian artists that draw inspiration from their country’s history.
Guests are invited to take advantage of the GEM’s Limited Guided Tours and explore certain parts of the venue ahead of its Grand Opening.
Finally, the time of waiting is done! The Grand Museum of Cairo is officially accessible to the public after several setbacks prevented its debut at the GEM. Limited guided tours of the Great Hall and the Glass Hall are available before the official opening date is announced. Additionally, the museum’s outside gardens and food court are visible, as are the conference center and commercial area. Before the grand opening, the GEM’s interior, including the museum galleries, will be off-limits.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is a cultural and artistic oasis that has played home to Egypt’s most prestigious events, such as:
Events in the grand Egyptian Museum
- Opera: The concert by opera singer Fatma Said was the GEM’s first big event. A new era in Egyptian culture has begun with this monumental triumph.
- Art Cairo Exhibition: Around two million people from across the globe attended the Art Cairo Exhibition, where local and international artists displayed a broad range of mediums, including paintings, sculptures, video installations, photography, and multimedia works.
It has taken nearly 20 years to finish the GEM project, which was initially announced in 2002. Artifacts range from ancient Egyptian gold funeral masks and mummies to classical Greek and Roman sculptures and medieval Islamic pieces of art.
The Irish architectural team Heneghan Peng created the museum with an emphasis on natural light and minimum use of materials like concrete and steel. The structure is meant to include both traditional Egyptian style and contemporary museum aesthetics.
Due to several failures and delays, the museum’s debut has been postponed for quite some time. The long wait is ended, though, and the museum is now open to guests from all around the globe.
